These
studies changed the way in which physical punishment would be researched over the
subsequent decade and redrew the landscape
of the debate.
For example, among three large
studies investigating prostaglandins for induction
of labor in women with a previous cesarean delivery, one found an increased risk
of uterine rupture (89), another reported no increased rupture risk (5), and a third found no increased risk
of rupture when prostaglandins were used alone (with no
subsequent oxytocin)(6).
This

of maternity services consultation process.
Although the use
of corporal punishment in children has been controversial, evidence continues to emerge highlighting the negative developmental impact

of age in our
study, a developmental stage when children are unlikely to understand the connection between their behavior and

studies suggested a temporal relationship but only in specific subgroup analysis.320, 321 In 2003, the Institute
of Medicine
of the National Academy
of Sciences reviewed available data and concluded that «[t] he evidence favors rejection
of a causal relationship between exposure to multiple vaccinations and SIDS.»
A single, small, retrospective case - control
study examined the use
of newborn transient evoked otoacoustic emission hearing screening tests as a tool for identifying infants at
subsequent risk
of SIDS.343 Infants who subsequently died from SIDS did not fail their hearing tests but, compared with controls, showed a decreased signal - to - noise ratio score in the right ear only (at frequencies
of 2000, 3000, and 4000 Hz).
Although additional
studies are required to confirm these findings and to understand the mechanisms
of breast milk protection, public health interventions to promote predominant breast feeding for at least six months and any breast feeding up to one year may reduce the prevalence and
subsequent morbidity
of respiratory illness and infection in infancy.
