Some cookbooks recommend cayenne hot sauce mixed with
liquid smoke as a
substitute, but we find this to be inferior to the real thing.
Any Idea what to use as a
substitute for the
liquid smoke?
I was caught short one morning without sage or
liquid smoke and my
substitutes of Marjoram and Thyme (a little of each, and
smoked paprika were a delightful surprise.
I also
substituted smoked paprika for the
liquid smoke and used a garbanzo / Ava blend flour, rolled oats instead of bran and a little more of the spices and nutritional yeast.
Also
substituted Worcestershire sauce for the
liquid smoke.
Is there any
substitute for the
liquid smoke?
Anonymous: Ground dried chipotle chilies would work as a
substitute, otherwise you can get the heat by using pretty much whatever form of chili that you do have, say cayenne, and then if you want the smokiness from the chipotles, add some
liquid smoke.
