I didn't have arrowroot flour, so I used almond flour, and I couldn't find any dates
for some reason, so I used raw
honey, and I don't like nuts in brownies, so I didn't use pecans, and I didn't have any hazelnut butter and didn't want to buy any because it's expensive, so I didn't frost them, but these are fantastic even with the
substitutions and without the frosting, wow.
I made a couple
substitutions — I filled the 1/3 cup up half way with maple syrup first, then the other half of the way with
honey; I used 1 cup whole wheat flour and 1/2 cup unflavored protein isolate powder; I substituted quinoa
for the millet.
I definitely recommend both recipes... I am going to use the PR recipe and do a
substitution of
honey for molasses.

substitution), and then I came across this recipe from The Prairie Homestead, which not only uses coconut oil but also substitutes
honey for sugar.
I've used only minor
substitutions for preferences and just what I had: left out the walnuts, used sorghum flour instead of buckwheat, and used maple syrup in place of both the dates and the
honey.
Replacing /
substitutions that worked
for others: EGGs: No Eggs by Orgran Flours: Chickpea, Brown Rice, Quinoa (not proven yet) Xanthum Gum: 2 tsp ground Flax Seed
Honey: Use Agave Nectar but keep in mind it may be sweeter than
honey so experiment!
Substitutions: — 1/2 c organic
honey + a dash of vanilla stevia
for sugar — vanilla flavouring (didn't have almond)-- Almond milk
for coconut — hemp hearts
for shredded coconut (I didn't have the coconut)-- 3 egg whites + 2 eggs
for 4 eggs

Make your raw chocolate in the usual way —
honey is an optional
substitution for Sweet Freedom here
for sweetness as it matches the other ingredients well - and then remove from the heat and set aside
for 10 minutes until the chocolate starts to thicken.

Maple syrup has worked as a
substitution in all of the baking recipes I have tried —
for honey or agave.
I've used this
substitution in the past
for chocolate cakes that called
for erythritol or
honey: I'm a die hard stevia fan, so i substituted one cup of sweetener
for 6 - 8 diced prunes in 1/3 to 1/2 cup water and simmered
for about 20 minutes.
and as far as complete
substitutions go, you generally can substitute maple syrup (or
honey, or agave, or the like)
for other sweeteners — it will just change the flavor a little.
I make a few
substitutions to include Wax Orchards Fruit Sweet + Stevia glycerite
for the
honey, a couple packets of instant coffee granules, a combo of chocolate chips & chunks.

I did make a few
substitutions though — I used coconut oil instead of the palm oil (i added about a teaspoon more coconut oil once I had mixed everything together because the mixture was a bit too crumbly and dry
for my liking) and I also added a teaspoon or so more of
honey due to the dryness of the mixture... I didn't use any white chocolate chips, and used vegan dark chocolate that i chopped up because i didn't have «chips» as such....
Substitutions: agave to
honey, little sugar
for stevia cause that is what I have on hand.

I did substitute
honey for some of the sugar the original recipe called
for, as well as put in some other
substitutions you can use.

substitutions for the healing diets:
for SCD / GAPS try subbing
honey for the maple syrup, and
for the chocolate, sub raisins, apples or properly prepared chopped nuts.

Maple syrup or
honey wouldn't make a great
substitution for the date sugar, but any other type of dry sugar should work well, such as coconut sugar or maple sugar.
Made these this evening with some
substitutions... rice flour,
honey and peanut butter... they have been in the fridge
for a couple of hours and are really gooey but I do really like the taste.
For those that like to know about
substitutions — I always use
honey instead of agave nectar and did so here; I did use grapeseed oil here because it was the first time and I wanted to not vary the recipe the first time much but I will use coconut or palm oil next time as they seem to work fine in the other recipes I've tried so far from this blog.
