Masterfully and humorously critiquing the
rampant consumerism of the postwar Western world, the artist is best known for a series of 1960s sculptures that commodifed his own bodily residue,
such as cans of his excrement, balloons filled with his breath, and eggs featuring his fingerprints.
In documenting these bloated retail havens (eleven
such images made up this recent exhibition at Robert Koch Gallery), Chicago - based photographer Brian Ulrich sets himself the not uncomplicated task of addressing the perils of
rampant consumerism without lapsing into simplistic, knee - jerk condemnation.
