Summer is
coming to an end, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't reward yourself with a cool product — one that saves time or helps you get through the
fall season in style.
Most tragedies happen somewhere: the spot where the towers
fell on 9/11, the beaches where the waves
came ashore during the Asian tsunami, the sunflower fields where the pieces of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17
fell after it was blasted out of the Ukrainian sky last
summer.
This
summer's box - office totals have also suffered from the expansion of blockbuster season as a handful of films likely to be among the year's biggest releases are slated to

Though I do love
Fall, I hated seeing
Summer come to an end this year.
One of my earliest memories of cooking and
falling in love with food
came from spending a week or two in the
summer at my grandparents house.
As I gear up to begin seeding for this year's garden, I'm reminded of the simple — but incredible — power of the home garden, and that for a 3 or 4 month stretch in
summer -
fall, I buy very little at the grocery store, my food
coming from my own little rectangle on this planet, or, for what I can't / don't grow, from the local farmers» markets.
Yesterday was about as homespun as they go;) Ate breakfast at home, went to church,
came home for leftovers, went to an open house, took Maggie to the park, made some fun food items, cleaned the house, worked on laundry, switched
summer — >
fall / winter clothes, and made dinner!
Being an avid
summer fan, I find it hard to get excited about the
coming of
fall.
As we revel in our last moments of
summer relaxation, let's take a peek at what's
coming this
fall in the Hudson Valley.
To ease the pain of
summer almost
coming to a close, let's get to making all the
fall foods.
It's depressing how quickly
summer is
coming to an end, but I'm not going to lie, I'm pretty dang excited for
fall foods.
In late
summer and early
fall, when the chiles harvest
comes in and vendors set up gas - fired roasters in dirt lots and grocery store parking lots, the sweet, pungent aroma of green chile fills the air and tells us: It's time to make green chile cheeseburgers!
Inspiration
comes to us in many different ways: a bird inspiring us to build a contraption to fly, a
falling apple uncovering the science behind gravity, the astounding power of a
summer storm to garner the electricity to light up our lives.
Now, when it
comes to
fall — I always feel like there's 2 groups of people: the ones rejoicing and the ones dreading the end of
summer.
Summer is still hanging in there and that means that I'm still using up those wonderful fruits — but it also means that
fall fruits are starting to
come into play.
I started these with a homemade sauce that
came from combining some scratch tomato paste I had from leftover tomatoes this
summer; adding a small jar of slow roasted tomatoes I also had canned in the
fall and infusing it with more flavour by adding fresh garlic, salt, pepper and some fresh oregano I have growing under a lamp for the winter, mixing and heating it all together in a pan.
I also have several big projects in the works
coming up and launching this
summer and
fall!
While it's always a little sad to see the
Summer season
coming to it's end, there's something that makes me pretty excited about the
coming Fall (and feel a little extra pressure to get crackin»!)
