With a cast that includes Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Angela Bassett and Lupita Nyong» o, Black Panther has been heralded as a milestone for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and for
superhero movies as a whole.

The
movie starts like the trailer, showing how kick - ass decides to be a
superhero, but
as soon
as he meets hit girl and Big Daddy, who were already super heroes before him, the
whole point of the
movie entirely changes to satisfy the revenge plot between Big Daddy and the main bad guy.
The director even goes so far
as to incorporate imagery cues from the
superhero genre (the Superman parallels are hard to miss) and on the
whole, the
movie has hints of a director who can do some fun things with a big canvas - even if he stills needs some practice with the brushstrokes.
As this hilarious teaser for the teaser trailer points out, the people behind Reynolds» previous onscreen incarnations in X-Men Origins: Wolverine effectively ruined him by taking away the character's defining potty mouth (not to mention the
whole thing being one of the worst
superhero movies ever made).
Not only did Iron Man change the way that
superhero movies are made, but it also impacted the industry
as a
whole.
While Black Panther will almost certainly experiences some drop - off in its second week, one thing is for certain: It has already left its mark on the
superhero movie genre and, more importantly, the Marvel Cinematic Universe
as a
whole.
This is all the more appropriate since,
as a
whole, Civil War can be summed
as part effective
superhero action / thriller, but also equal parts, if not more so, engaging dramatic / psychological thriller that features Earth's Mightiest Heroes; though admittedly, while the title might suggest otherwise, Civil War is only really a
superhero war
movie in a figurative sense.
Taken
as a
whole, Civil War is an impressive accomplishment for Marvel Studios and provides further proof that there's far more storytelling potential in the
superhero movie genre than many people believed back when the MCU began with Iron Man in 2008.
With the success of these
movies (both in its fandom with Marvel fans and in causal moviegoers), the MCU (
as a
whole) has continued to grow and expanded, especially when Disney acquisitioned Marvel to bring the
superhero world into the «House of Mouse», finding each new installment in their sequential Phases sagas to try to had another layer to the overall complexity to this cinematic world
as well
as being
superhero entertainment to viewers everywhere.
That's a really tremendous cast, one with a
whole bunch of Oscars and other awards to their names, and at the very least the
movie will serve
as counterprogramming to next summer's action and
superhero blockbusters.
The
whole thing is a massive gag that spoofs modern
superhero movies that cram in new characters
as obvious ploys to set up future
movies.
