Focusing on financial and technical
support of the creative projects by California
artists, 18th Street maintains three programs that reflect its mission: a Residency Program, a
Visiting Artist - in - Residence Program, and a Public Events and Presenting Program.
Its new headquarters, located on a residential street just north of Chinatown and close to Lower East Side galleries, is designed to
support artists at work, through exhibitions, workspace residencies,
visiting artist lectures and discussions.
Based in the University of Houston Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts, the Mitchell Center commissions and produces new works, presents public performances and exhibitions,
supports curriculum and scholarships, and hosts residencies with renowned
visiting artists from throughout the world.
Parallel to the solo show, the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (AFAD) in Bratislava is hosting me as a
visiting artist from November 26 to December 1 as part of OPEN STUDIOS,
supported by the KEGA - Cultural and Educational Grant Agency of the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic.
Both
artists have come to know the house, collections, gardens and grounds well; Tamara through her residency in 2015
supported by the Royal Overseas League and Lubaina through frequent
visits made over the last six months.
Our Residency Program
