adoptive parents found that fears dissipated when friends and family were able to develop relationships with birth family and better understand the birthparents»

While the plan is for each
child to find permanency individually, these connections are important and prospective

Surviving relatives who can recover damages include the decedent's spouse,
children, and parents, as well as any blood relative or
adoptive sibling who was partly or completely dependent on the decedent for services or
support.
However, the definition of «spouse» under the section of the Family Law Act pertaining to spousal
support, includes common law partners: «either of two persons who are not married to each other and have cohabited, (a) continuously for a period of not less than three years, or (b) in a relationship of some permanence, if they are the natural or
adoptive parents of a
child.
Parents for the purposes of
child support include married, common law, estranged, biological, and
adoptive parents.
