support authentic student engagement and collaborative problem - solving.

engagement and reduce time spent on nonteaching - related activities.
How do we as leaders
support our teachers in creating routine learning opportunities that promote
authentic student engagement?
Building complex learning experiences, where
students are routinely thinking at high levels, interacting with their peers, and receiving careful guidance and
support from their teachers, is what grounds
authentic engagement.
Panelists discussed the ways in which community schools improve
student learning while also providing health and social
supports, developing
authentic family and community
engagement, and
supporting collaborative leadership and practices.
These partnerships ultimately help build and integrate the common elements of a community school: (1) health and social
supports for
students and families, often called wraparound services; (2)
authentic family and community
engagement; and (3) expanded learning opportunities inside and outside the school building that
support the core curriculum and enrich
students» learning experiences.
As the theoretical basis for their intervention,
students from 19 of the S3 high schools used the youth - adult partnership framework (Zeldin, Christens, & Powers, 2012), which focuses on
supporting positive youth development through
authentic civic
engagement.
