So how exactly do we — in England —
support breastfeeding mums?

Breastfeeding was a struggle for most of the five months I fed, despite having huge
support from my
mum.
Maybe you could
breastfeed in public, share your
breastfeeding story on our site (like many mothers already have), wear clothing that promotes
breastfeeding, talk about it to women who are currently pregnant or attend
breastfeeding support groups to help
breastfeeding mums who are finding it difficult.
We have a fabulous
support network in the north - east called Bosom Buddies, which helps,
supports and encourages new
mums as they get to grips with
breastfeeding during the early days.
A three - day training session on
breastfeeding does not, in many cases, equip a midwife or health visitor with adequate means to provide
mums with all the
support they need.
I think women are becoming more comfortable in telling others that they are still nursing older babies so hopefully there will be a shift in attitudes but I have recently «lost» a few facebook followers after posting a status regarding full - term
breastfeeding (I think they were most likely from a giveaway I did ages ago and not on the same page re: bf etc) Apart from that, I love telling
Mums on the ward (I'm a bf peer supporter) I'm still feeding as it opens their mind to that possibility and I think I look pretty normal so it mostly doesn't freak them out My son is far too busy to nurse out and about and prefers juice so we've not nursed in public (apart from
support group) since he was 18 mths and that was as I had a blocked duct!

Training up as a peer
support worker at
breastfeeding drop ins now lets me
support other

support out there for
mums of multiples.
Good luck to any new
mums, search for
breastfeeding support groups in your area they can be invaluable.
my top tip would be to get to your local
support groups before baby arrives, meet the
breastfeeding supporters and local
breastfeeding mums.
Many new
mums enjoy taking their baby to a
breastfeeding support group and practising there.
Studies
support that your milk production does not decrease, your milk composition does not change (or if there are changes it does not affect your babies willingness to
breastfeed) and is healthier for the
mum (of course)!
Many towns also have local
breastfeeding cafes and
support groups where you can go along with your baby, chat to other
mums and get advice from a
breastfeeding expert.
In Ontario, Canada (where I am) there is a huge
support system for
breastfeeding mums (also helps that we get 1 yr Mat leave & free community resources).

support and criticism for not only Liana but for all of the other
breastfeeding mums out there (who happen to have to feed -LSB-...]
While the
breastfeeding rates in this country are still pretty abysmal and the
support for
breastfeeding mums is nowhere near what it should be, at least we aren't undermined right from the beginning any more.

breastfeeding position involves your baby lying on his back, while you crouch over him on all fours and dangle your nipple in his mouth.4 Some
