support from the National Science Foundation, Project 2061 has developed an online bank of high - quality test items and related assessment resources for use in
middle and early high
school science (http / / assessment.aaas.org), and a grant from the U.S. Department of Education is funding the development of assessment instruments for evaluating students» understanding of energy
concepts from elementary through high
school.
The program combined experiential training tools, practices, and project - based learning models to
support elementary,
middle, and high
school teachers in incorporating
concepts of making, inventing, and innovation into classroom instruction.
This program
supports the reform in
middle grades mathematics and science by providing a model for preparing teachers in a way that is consistent with the
middle school concept.
Prospective teachers can also take part of the approach presented here to implement change and
support the necessary reform in mathematics and science teaching over time, regardless of the degree of implementation of the
middle school concept in their placement
