Nothing compares to the feeling you get the first time you paddle into a
wave, stand up as it breaks and ride the
face of it — this is the incomparable feeling of
surfing.
Surfers don't like closeouts because they have no
face of the
wave to ride.

wave out in front of our camp is called Punta Miramar and it can hold
surf up to 15 to 20 foot
faces.

Fistral beach is the area's main West
facing beach that draws in the predominant west swells and winds, but many other
surf spots in the area serve up some cracking Cornish
waves too!
South -
facing beaches are also less likely to be
surfing beaches due to calmer
waves, especially on cove beaches.
This west
facing direction like many Cornish
surfing beaches exposes Fistral to large Atlantic swells that provide consistent
waves throughout the year.
For photo buffs, the sun sets more directly over the water on south -
facing beaches in winter but sets off to the right over land in summer... MORE South -
facing beaches are also less likely to be
surfing beaches due to calmer
waves, especially on cove beaches.
Surfers work on improving their paddling endurance and technique, learn to read the line - up and position themselves for riding the open
face, and practice pacing themselves on the
wave (a fundamental skill for executing maneuvers).
Lowers is known as a high performance
wave with fast walls and steep
faces, it attracts the top
surfers from all around SoCal.
The
wave can peel along perfectly for hundreds of yards, leaving a grin on the
face of any
surfer.
In exception to this, bottom turns will generate the most amount of speed in your
surfing as your surfboard will typically be on the minimum amount of rail at the time where your board will have the most amount of speed through gravity having pulled your board down the
wave face.
Unlike some of the other beaches, this South
facing beach has some mild
surf, so expect some fun and small
waves when swimming / wading in the water.
Surfers staying in Montezuma will head over to the pacific side of the peninsula when the
waves are too small in Montezuma, since St Teresa
faces out to the pacific and thus catches more, and bigger swells.
Surfed Oeste today, best
wave around shape wise [we checked it all] and 3 - 4 ft
faces with light offshore winds, nobody hardly in the water but lots of people on the beach!
The Pavones
surfer won a bronze medal and scored a 8.4, despite
facing problems with the lack of good
waves.
This is not a world class
wave and
faces northwest but if traveling during strong Northern Hemisphere season, you can catch some epic
surf at this local
wave with
wave lines as far as you can see.
