surrendered to shelters, Pets for Patriots provides veterans with a few benefits to make pet guardianship more affordable over the life
of the pet.
We generally do not accept owner
surrendered animals into our adoption program, with the exception
of animals previously
adopted from MHS.
The rate is calculated by dividing the number
of live outcomes (
animals returned to their owners,
adopted or transferred to other organizations) by the number
of live (strays, owner

Animals surrendered to the shelter, with proof
of ownership, can be
adopted without the holding period.
The «Turnaround Program» process, involves the owner
surrendering the
animal to the shelter and turning around and
adopting (at normal fees) the same
animal to take advantage
of the reduced vet bills covering the spay / neuter.
The lines
of people
surrendering an
animal are much longer than the ones there to
adopt.
If we do take an owner
surrender, we ask that Owners donate supplies or money to help offset the care
of their
animal until it can be
adopted.
C2CND takes abandoned and
surrendered animals (most are cats and dogs with the highest risk
of euthanasia), ensures they have proper medical care, places them into foster homes, and
adopts them to safe, permanent, loving homes.
Although some
animals are lucky enough to be
adopted after being
surrendered, the tragic fate
of too many is death.
For owner -
surrendered animals, the ASPCA supports the elimination
of hold times to the extent that they unnecessarily delay shelters» efforts to
adopt or find placement for such
animals.
At Pets for Patriots, we're proud that our program focuses on the needs
of adult and other at - risk dogs and cats; many veterans in our program end up
adopting an
animal surrendered by a family or individual in financial distress.
Our mission is to rescue dogs from high kill shelters who have no time left, through no fault
of their own as well as local dogs & other
animals being
surrendered place them in foster homes until
adopted.
