A 2014 Center
on Reinventing Public Education (CRPE)
survey found that while 55 percent of public
school parents participated in
choice, nearly one - third of families had some difficulty understanding which
schools their children were eligible to attend, a quarter had trouble getting information to choose a
school, and one in five reported difficulty in transporting their child to the

choice.
These prior studies are based largely
on non-experimental comparisons of
survey responses of similar students in public and private
schools, whereas our study is the first to examine data
on the actual voting behavior of students who participated in a
choice lottery.
According to the
survey, parent opinion reads like a photocopy of the union's agenda — supportive of more investment in
schools and teachers, wary of standardized testing, skeptical about evaluating teachers based
on student performance, and resistant to the expansion of
choice.
To incorporate empirical evidence when possible, we draw
on data from interviews with 21 parents and
surveys of 504 parents about the OneApp and
school choice, conducted in the spring of 2014 by the Center
on Reinventing Public Education (CRPE).
So, it is frustrating to discover within this
survey, posted
on the website of the
School Choice Campaign, a flagship project of the Centre for Civil Society to bring about reforms in
schools in India, a high rate of attrition among teachers in the developing world, which averages about 19 % across the countries studied.

In 2006, the Mackinac Center for Public Policy published the results of a
survey of organizations working
on school choice that I conducted; it found that 67 % of respondents think vouchers are more likely to be challenged in court, compared to just three percent who chose tax credits - and, by a margin of 53 points, respondents also thought that tax credits were more likely to survive a court challenge.
Our goal with this
survey was to find out legislators» views
on K — 12 education and
school choice, but also to probe how they make decisions, the sources of information they trust and whether they enjoy their jobs.
