Foord and scientists at the University of Miami say the corals living in the shallow waters just south of Miami Beach may offer clues as to how the world's disappearing coral can
survive in changing oceans.

in the journal Science Advances has concluded that another impact of global climate
change might help coral reefs
survive increasing sea temperatures: «even a modest sea level rise can substantially reduce temperature extremes within tide - dominated reefs, thereby partially offsetting the local effects of future
ocean warming,» the authors of the study write.
«The good news is that, rather than experiencing wholesale destruction, many coral reefs will
survive climate
change by
changing the mix of coral species as the
ocean warms and becomes more acidic,» said Terry Hughes of James Cook University
in Australia.
Geologically «an - cient» species, which have
survived large
changes in ocean chemistry, are likely more resilient to predicted acidification....
