Here's an invitation to participate in a Choices in
Sustainable Living discussion series sponsored by the Quechee Library and VINS.
We recently learned that students at Fukuoka Women's University in Japan recently participated in NWEI's Choices for
Sustainable Living discussion course as part of an «Exploring Sustainable Living» program (which included a study trip to Australia to learn about sustainable applications underway in other countries).
The new online Choices for
Sustainable Living discussion course will begin Wednesday, May 9th.
The Corporate Responsibility team was looking for a passionate employee to develop a pilot
sustainable living discussion course for employees.
Novelis, an industry leader in aluminum recycling, recently offered Northwest Earth Institute's Choices for
Sustainable Living discussion course to employees as part of a Sustainability Lunch and Learn offering which ended in March, 2014.
Rick demonstrated the power of NWEI's Choices for
Sustainable Living discussion course when he organized this course at The Standard more than 10 years ago, planting the seeds for the creation of The Standard's first Green Team.

He wrote the following reflections on using NWEI's Choices for
Sustainable Living discussion guide in the classroom.

Sustainable Living.

Since he began using the texts in class, nearly 300 students have participated in the Choices for
Sustainable Living small group
discussion process developed by the Northwest Earth Institute.
By working with the Northwest Earth Institute (NWEI), who creates
discussion course books on sustainability topics, Sydney launched the Choices for
Sustainable Living course to 200 employees.
In classes such as Choices for
Sustainable Living, Voluntary Simplicity, and
Sustainable Systems at Work, employees meet with coworkers on their lunch hour six times to go over course work — usually essays and articles — hold
discussions and perform an action item.

We piloted two Northwest Earth Institute groups and there were 15 - 20 people in the first
discussion groups... Partners for
Sustainable Living became a grassroots, employee driven venue for making change.»
My biggest take - away from the
discussion group was remembering that these things are still important to me and that I can still make small changes in my own
life to
live in accordance with my values and in a way that is more
sustainable for the world.
They'll be running the Change is our Choice: Creating Climate Solutions
discussion course in July and the 7 - week Choices for
Sustainable Living course in the Fall.

The first NWEI
discussion course group I organized myself, however, was Choices for
Sustainable Living.
The congregation in Palo Alto has offered a number of NWEI
discussion courses on topics ranging from Voluntary Simplicity to Choices for
