really craving something deliciously
sweet and filling so I dreamt up this awesome
apple, pear and raisin cake last night and wow did it taste good!
The combination of almonds, dates, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds and agave
really create a layer of heaven that sits perfectly on the deliciously
sweet, soft baked
apple.
The inside is comprised of layers upon layers of cinnamon - poached pears, soft and
sweet, and tart, spiced
apples, with more bite and brightness, all lacquered and laced with brown butter butterscotch, a salty, profound, caramel sauce that
really takes the pie to the next level.
And we loved the
apples with the
sweet potatoes (I baked mine)--
really yummy.
You
really can use any type of vinegar (you just need the acid in order to react with the baking soda in the recipe) but the mild,
sweeter flavor of
apple cider vinegar tends to work the best.
Loaded with lentils, mushrooms, fuji
apples and
sweet, sauteed onions, this loaf captures the essence of the season perfectly, and I must say, it
really turned out amazing.
We ditched the sugar in the

sweet potatoes, citrus glazed duck breast, cranberry glazed turkey and spinach meatloaf, maple glazed rack of ribs, veal roast with mushroom sauce, pastrami meatballs, almond butter banana pancakes, cheesy hash browns,
apple kugel muffins, blueberry cobbler, and fudgy chocolate bundt cake with coffee glaze.
If you
really don't like the juice then you can back up and start with a
sweeter mix like carrot,
apple and ginger and / or lemon.
They topped it off with basil apricot relish so there will be a sweetness to balance out the mustard, and
sweet fruits like
apple sauce are often paired with pork chops because they simply go
really well together.
The milk I used was a soya milk which had been naturally sweetened with a bit of
apple juice, so that may have added to the
sweet flavour, but you can sweeten it to your own preferences, but I
really don't think it needs it.
The
apple sweet potato hash is made with the Superfresh organic granny smith
apples (which I have to admit are much
sweeter than I'd remembered — I always thought grannies were
really tart / sour.)
I also thought I'd use carob to coat some of the balls which actually works
really well with the flavours of the delicately
sweet carrot and
apple.
I loved how the tempeh broke down and soaked in all the spices and the
sweet crunch of
apple and hint of dried fruit (I used a dried berry mixture I had on hand) works
really well.

sweet potato juice adds a nice touch of
sweet that
really brings this whole ensemble all together.
I used 3 different types of
apples just because I had a good variety from my
apple picking adventures, and wanted a mix of
sweet and tart
apple flavor, but you can
really use any you have on hand.
Seriously though, this salad looks delicious and I think the
sweet / salty combo of the
apples & bacon would work
really well!

There's so much to say about
Apple's new tablet, the iPad 2, yet it
really boils down to a few short and
sweet sentences.
I've recently seen a
really nice food with some organic fruits and vegetables, «human grade» meats, a nice oil blend (olive, salmon and evening primrose) and many other appealing ingredients, but when I looked at the ingredient list closely, I saw that salt ranked higher on the list than eggs, yeast supplement and any of the fruits and veggies (listed: fresh whole garlic, fresh whole
sweet peas, fresh whole
sweet potatoes, fresh whole carrots, fresh whole green
apples)- that is pretty scary.
That's a hard problem to solve and a hard question to ask because

Apple knows what the
sweet spot is they're targeting and how to best get about that.
