I used coconut oil and maple
syrup as subs (it's what I had) and they are the most addictive things ever!!

made this today with maple
syrup subbed for date
syrup, and no almond butter
as I did nt have it.
I did
sub coconut oil for butter, coconut oil is so easy to
sub 1:1 and has so many good bits for you Also, I had no maple
syrup on hand so just used the same amount in honey although next time will use maple
as I love the flavour of maple in muffins and cakes.
As I mentioned above, I had to
sub dark agave
syrup for the yacon
syrup due to lack of availability, and it worked just fine.
I
subbed maple
syrup for the honey
as I am following a strict fodmap diet... and added some orange peel along with the cranberries.
Agave will be just fine instead of maple
syrup, and almond flour will work but the amount will be quite different
as it is much more naturally moist so it's not a 1 - for - 1
sub unfortunately.
Maple
syrup or granulated sweeteners will not work
as a direct
sub since the dates not only sweeten but bind and add tons of moisture to the donuts too.
It was so delicious and I didn't have the caramel
syrup as I can't eat those sweeteners but I did use Just Like Sugar Brown sugar
sub, 1 tsp Frontier Maple extract and 1 tsp Frontier vanilla
as subs for the caramel
syrup and can I tell you, this is a winner, Mellissa.
I use almond meal instead of flour
as almond flour is difficult to find here in Australia and I also
sub in rice malt
syrup for the honey to reduce the fructose content.
All of that aside, this formula recipe is what my mother and uncles were raised on
as they were from the «it's not cool to breastfeed» era, except Karo
syrup was
subbed for white sugar.
If you can't find it (check food stores, in Middle Eastern shops, or order online) you could
sub in another liquid sweetener such
as honey or brown rice
syrup, or go in with just plain old brown sugar (I'll note the amount in the recipe below).
