It's absolutely absurd to suggest that something that is inevitable in a three -
body planetary system is in any way connected to a millennia - old book of fairy tales.
The International Astronomical Union defines «planet» as a celestial
body that, within the Solar
System that is in orbit around the Sun; has sufficient mass for its self - gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a hydrostatic equilibrium (nearly round) shape; and has cleared the neighbourhood around its orbit; or within another system, it is in orbit around a star or stellar remnants; has a mass below the limiting mass for thermonuclear fusion of deuterium; and is above the minimum mass / size requirement for planetary status in the Solar S

These «debris disks» are constantly fed by collisions among rocky
bodies — the larger of which can survive and grow by continued accretion — because the tiny dust grains quickly fall onto the central star or get blown out of the
planetary system.
But
planetary bodies that formed in different parts of the solar
system generally have different isotopic compositions, so different that the isotopic signatures serve as «fingerprints» for planets and meteorites from the same
body.

planetary bodies in the Solar
System that don't have atmospheres and therefore no weather

planetary protection and our desire to go back to Enceladus, go back to Titan, go back to the Saturn
system, we must protect those
bodies for future exploration,» Jim Green, director of NASA's
planetary science division, said at a news conference on September 13.

planetary protection officer, who is charged with ensuring agency projects do not contaminate other solar
system bodies.

bodies like it on the
planetary outskirts of the solar
system.
The orbits of exocomets on Beta Pictoris could also help scientists trace the presence and migration of larger, undetected
bodies such as gas giant planets in the
planetary system, says Russel White, an astronomer at Georgia State University in Atlanta who was not involved in the study.
Dynamicists simulating the solar
system's early days are finding that a violent reshuffling of
bodies large and small may explain many of today's
planetary mysteries.
Solutions to the «three -
body problem» could predict the dynamics of real - life
planetary and stellar
systems.
A similar
system would work on Mars or some other
planetary body,» says NASA's David Smitherman.
Just one month before Voyager's arrival, a research team had published the first serious model laying out how a liquid ocean could exist within a
planetary body in the chilly outskirts of the solar
system.
According to the science team, this star is 10,000 times dustier than our own solar
system, likely due to a recent impact between
planetary bodies in its inner regions.
Planetary scientists have long known that Io is the most volcanically active
body in the solar
system, thanks to constant gravitational tugs from Jupiter and its other moons that churn Io's interior.
Other astronomers find the detections convincing, although most reserve the name «planet» for
bodies that form within a
planetary system and orbit stars, says theorist Alan Boss of the Carnegie Institution of Washington in Washington, D.C. «They should call them «
planetary - mass brown dwarfs,»» Boss says.
Outside of Earth, Titan is the only other
planetary body in the solar
system with actively flowing rivers, though they're fed by liquid methane instead of water.
Such discoveries will let us better pin down the lunar impact rate and also better characterize the most common process that shapes
planetary bodies across the Solar
System.»
He is a leading researcher in
planetary cratering and in the physical properties of the smaller
bodies of the solar
system (asteroids, comets,
planetary satellites, the planet Mercury).
The
planetary bodies such as these asteroids that fall into and pollute this dying star — which, in its heyday, was three times heavier than our sun — also reveal that giant exoplanets probably still exist in this remote and withering
system.
An exoplanet is a
planetary body that sits outside our solar
system and orbits another star that is not our sun.
Observations of the planets, satellites, and small
bodies in the Solar
system provide indispensable information about planet formation and evolution processes that remain unattainable for other
planetary systems.
Astronomers have long wondered whether other
planetary systems have
bodies with properties similar to those in the Kuiper belt, and the new study appears to confirm for the first time that one such
body exists.
Tidal forces acting on Io are so pronounced that the satellite's interior is literaly molten, causing the moon to be the most volcanically active
planetary body in the Solar
System, sporting over 400 active volcanoes!
In particular, I will focus on planets on eccentric orbits, not only because typical exoplanetary
systems have been found to contain these, but also because their interactions with debris disks theoretically facilitates the transport of icy
bodies within the habitable zone of
planetary systems.
This year,
planetary spacecraft will visit two significant
bodies in the solar
system.
Based on its high metal content and excluding the effects of gravitational compression, Mercury is the densest major
planetary body in the Solar
System, with about 1.2 times the uncompressed density of the Earth which averages 4.4 gm / cm3 (Murchie et al, Scientific American, March 2011).

Both objects formed among the rocky and icy protoplanets beyond the Solar
System's «ice line» now located around 2.7 AUs, but the early development of Jupiter apparently prevented such large protoplanets between the gas giant and planet Mars from agglomerating into even bigger
planetary bodies, by sweeping many into pulverizing collisions as well as slinging them into the Sun or Oort Cloud, or even beyond Sol's gravitational reach altogether.
