tablet company owned by American bookselling chain Barnes & Noble told customers it would stop trading in the UK, effective as of 15th March 2016, via a notice posted on its website last night (3rd March).
Kobo, the e-reader and
tablet company owned by Rakuten (aka Japan's answer to Amazon), is today taking the covers off four new devices — three new Android - based Arc tablets and a new Aura e-reader.

With so many
companies pushing
tablets into the market it shouldn't come as a surprise that the
company is developing its
own device.
Many of the largest
companies in the business such as Asus, Dell, Lenovo, and Samsung have already confirmed they are into developing their
own version of a
tablet running Windows RT..
Providing e-Reader and
Tablet companies with the tools to create their
own apps is critical for the growth of eBooks.
I think the success of
tablets will be up to two deciding factors; One — the independent developing community that is the lifeline on the success of a new device and 2)
Companies who develop their
own content delivery network that allow the
tablet to be used specifically for a niche population of users.
Further, other
companies that have opted to develop the first Windows RT based
tablets are concerned that when Microsoft develops its
own hardware, it will rob them of the price advantage.
While the
company is still only selling simple Kindle e-readers, Amazon has quietly built all the tools it needs to compete against Apple and the other
tablet makers with its
own Android - based
tablets.
As with Amazon and its e-commerce operation and content holdings and subsequent foray into hardware with the Kindle e-readers and subsequent Kindle Fire
tablets, Tesco pulling all of these together and putting them front and center will help the
company promote these products more effectively, in a way that only Tesco would be able to do on its
own device.

With the success of the partnerships Amazon has established with big name
companies such as EA by making dedicated paid Kindle Applications, they are laying the ground work for their
own store that could be employed with any Google Android Smartphone or
Tablet PC.
Barnes and Noble has closed a loophole in the Nook
Tablet that allowed users to sideload in their
own applications, bypassing the official app store the
company runs.
The
company also reported weak holiday sales for the Nook in January, as it sold fewer e-readers and
tablets at its
own retail locations.
Also, the
tablet has been designed and developed by Bharat Electronics Ltd., a state
owned company that caters mainly to the defense segment.
Amazon is the only
company that has a cheaper
tablet then us, but they lock you into their
own ecosystem and the Amazon App Store does not have big name apps.
