Based on IDC's May report, the Kindle Fire has only 1.9 % of worldwide
tablet shipments,
down 47 % year - to - year.
From their press release -» worldwide
tablet shipments are expected to reach 221.3 million units in 2013,
down slightly from a previous forecast of 227.4 million but still 53.5 % above 2012 levels.
IDC recently published its
tablet shipment numbers for 2017 which revealed that the global
tablet market saw a 7.9 % decline year - on - year while Samsung's
tablet shipments were
down by 6.4 %, conceding the second spot to Amazon Kindle Fire
tablets.
Slate
tablet shipments are
down by -15.4 % Y - o - Y for the quarter, as such devices are now considered to be little more than simple media consumption devices with little no no productive use cases.
Lenovo's
tablet shipments were
down 13.8 YoY due to slowing demand for Android slate
tablets, but Huawei has posted 82.2 % increase in
tablet shipments year - on - year.
Lenovo
tablet shipments were
down 10.8 percent in the quarter to 2.7 million, while fifth - place Huawei shipped 2.4 million
tablets in an increase of 28.4 percent from the third quarter of last year as the Chinese companies filled out the top five spots in the market, IDC reported.
Global
tablet shipments from makers were just 36 million units in Q1, which is
down 30.8 % sequentially and 12.4 % on year.
Traditional slate
tablet specifically shipped 26.8 million units, bringing its
shipments down by 13.9 percent from 2017.
But while the numbers of
shipments are
down, IDC points to Google's entrance into the
tablet world as a way to bring those numbers back up.
But while
shipments were up 39 percent from 11.1 million in the third quarter, Apple's share of the global media
tablet market slipped to 57 percent in the fourth quarter,
down from 64 percent in the third quarter, as presented in the table below.
Detachable
tablets like the Microsoft Surface and iPad Pro saw over 2.9 % YoY growth by grabbing 15.3 % share, but the traditional slate
tablets continued to decline with 26.8 million unit
shipments,
down 13.9 % from the prior year.

India and other emerging markets are on pace to show the strongest growth (even though worldwide combined
shipments of devices (PCs,
tablets, and mobile phones) are expected to be 2.4 billion units in 2015,
down 1 percent from 2014 and the previous quarter's forecast of 1.5 percent growth, said market research firm Gartner.
Global
tablet shipments totaled 70 million in Q4 2015,
down 11 percent year over year.
IDC's report is predicting that for 2014, worldwide
shipments of
tablets will come in at 245.4 million units, which is
down from its previous prediction of 260.9 million units.
Best Buy's CEO says
tablet sales are crashing, and even Apple's
tablet shipments are
down 9 % year - over-year for the quarter.
