FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — April 28, 2016 — First quarter seasonality combined with an overall disinterested customer base led to an annual decline of 14.7 % in worldwide
tablet shipments during the first quarter of 2016 (1Q16).
The South Korean electronics giant has vigorously boosted
tablet shipments during the last 12 months, increasing its share position by 8.1 percentage points.

For Samsung, the second largest player in the
tablet space, the drop in
shipment has been less sharp, having shipped 8.1 million
tablet devices
during second quarter, a slight dip from the 8.6 million
tablet devices it shipped
during the first quarter.

shipments of 3G

However, both Digitimes and IDC seem to be unanimous regarding the iPad, reporting
shipments of 19.5 million of the Apple
tablet during the period.
Although the iPad remains the best - selling
tablet, Apple's share of the
tablet market dropped 8.1 points year - over-year
during the last quarter — albeit based on
shipments rather than actual sales to end users, according to new iDC numbers.
Asus has also announced the sale of close to a million
tablet PCs
during the first three quarters if this year and expressed confidence of reaching the overall
shipment target of 1.5 to 2 million

tablets to end users

shipments to pick up in the third quarter once Apple launches its completely redesigned fifth - generation iPad.
