Tablet shipment figures
for the first quarter of 2013 are already here and they present an interesting scenario.
For Samsung, the second largest player in the
tablet space, the drop in
shipment has been less sharp, having shipped 8.1 million
tablet devices during second quarter, a slight dip from the 8.6 million
tablet devices it shipped during the first quarter.
Consumer preference
for tablet devices continue to rise unabated with the latest research by Strategy Analytics revealing a rise of 43 percent in
tablet pc
shipments in Q2 2013 compared to the same period last year.
Market research firm ABI Research predicts that
tablet shipment is expected to reach 200 million units by end of 2014, which will mark a 20 percent increase in sales
for the year.
IDC, though, decided to walk a different path by actually lowering the
tablet shipment figures
for 2013 to 227.2 million units.
So why the reason
for the decline in
tablet shipments?
A longer upgrade cycle will also hurt
shipments, since many consumers prefer to spend their money on new smartphones or laptops instead of
tablets, which are mainly used

But it's all a matter of perspective: today IDC said that it's actually lowering forecasts
