China's biggest personal - computer maker by
shipments is following rivals such as Dell Inc. that
see tablets as a new potential growth driver.
IDC said the worldwide
tablet market
saw sizzling growth of 142.4 percent compared to the same period a year ago, with
shipments hitting 49.2 million units in the first three months of 2013.
The other product category is slate
tablets (those lacking this keyboard option), which
saw shipments peak in 2014 and is now in a steep decline that IDC believes will continue throughout the forecast period.

tablet tracker, the worldwide
tablet market has

Microsoft has also stated they wish to
see shipment of its own Surface range of
tablets to rise to six million from three million in 2013.
Research firm IDC says the top - heavy

tablet shipments were up a whopping 50.3 percent compared to Q4 2016.
Yet, the company
sees strong demand in the fourth quarter, thanks to products like the Kindle Fire and NOOK
Tablet, and increased its worldwide
shipment forecast for the full year to 63.3 million units.
The projections
seen by The Verge had Android
tablets claiming 10 million
shipments out of an estimated 30 million in 2011, or 33 percent share.
But there aren't enough BlackBerry faithful to sustain such a business, especially given the
tablet category
saw its first year - over-year decline in
shipments in the fourth quarter.
Detachable
tablets like the Microsoft Surface and iPad Pro
saw over 2.9 % YoY growth by grabbing 15.3 % share, but the traditional slate
tablets continued to decline with 26.8 million unit
shipments, down 13.9 % from the prior year.
Meanwhile, IDC reports that the consumer market for
tablets is shrinking, with worldwide
tablet shipments falling 5.9 percent in the first quarter of 2015 (

AppleInsider reports that Kuo
sees Apple selling between 14 million and 15 million
tablets to end users during the quarter, and he expects both sales and
shipments to pick up in the third quarter once Apple launches its completely redesigned fifth - generation iPad.
