Despite record sales of Apple's iPad, the Android platform had a record 39 % share of the 26.8 million
tablet units sold worldwide in the fourth quarter of 2011, according to a new report from Strategy Analytics.

units sold and on revenue, continuing a modest resurgence of the company's
tablet business.

tablets it has
sold in 2012, though analysts predict the sales figure for Samsung to achieve in 2013 could be 40 million

The original iPad
sold more than 15 million
units in 2010, prompting Jobs to claim that Apple had 90 percent of the
tablet market.
According to technology research firm Gartner, the iPad will account for 73 percent of worldwide
tablet sales of 63.6 million
units this year and will remain the top -
selling device over the next few years.
And while 350 million
units were
sold in 2012, there were 700 million Smartphones shipped along with 120 million
tablets during the same period.
In comparison, last year, Apple led the
tablet category with nearly 53 % of sales on 61 million
units, compared to Android at nearly 46 % with 53 million
tablets sold.
Though exact sales numbers for the Kindle Fire (and Nook) are almost impossible to come by, IDC said the 7 - inch Fire, which launched late last year
sold almost 5 million
units and gobbled up 14 %
tablet marketshare.
The company has set a modest target for itself, aiming to
sell just 3,000
units of the
tablet before 2010 draws to a close.
However, the problem is the
tablet came out late — December 9 to be precise — and by this time, the iPad has already gone on to record sales that can be measured in millions of
units sold.
New
units sold will come with Google Play already installed on the
tablet.
In order to compete against other
tablet computers, and increase conversion from traditional e-readers to iPads, Amazon, Sony, and Barnes and Noble drastically lowered their entry level prices, in order to
sell more
units.
The company managed to
sell 12,000
units of the PlayBook during the last four days, which not only erased all stock of the
tablet that has been lying idle with retailers but has also prompted RIM to bring in more to ensure there are enough to keep up with the expected demand.
Datawind, the Canada based manufacturer that has been contracted to manufacture the Aakash expect to
sell 15 million
units of the
tablet PCs this year alone.
Nook
tablets and Kindle Fires
sold 4 million
units, which amounts to about 40 percent of the total 10.5 million
tablets that have been
sold.
RIM is also preparing to launch the BlackBerry PlayBook as its first
tablet offering this year, which could
sell as many as 6 million
units during its first year of availability.
Consumer technology giant Samsung expects to
sell 10 million
units of its new Galaxy Tab Android - based
tablet by the third quarter of 2011.
The previous AMOLED
tablet from Samsung was the Galaxy Tab 7.7, that moved only 550k
units and Samsung expects to
sell ten times as much in the case of the new
unit.
This could be seen as both an attempt to compete against the high sales of the recently released new Nexus 7 FHD (estimated to
sell 3.5 million
units in 2013), as well as be seen as an indication of the 3rd launch of new Kindle Fire
tablets drawing nearer.
While the Pew study did not break down the increases by
tablet type (android, iPad or other like Amazon Kindle Fire, B & N Nook), industry analysts estimate the Kindle Fire
sold 4 - 5 million
units during the holiday season.

Asus CEO Jerry Chen recently said that his company
sold 1.2 million Eee Pads from the launch to the end of the third quarter, Shen expects the company's
tablet PC shipments will reach 600,000
units of the Transformer Prime in the fourth quarter.
Amazon continues to
sell less Fire
Tablets and
sold 1.1 million
units in Q1 2018, which represent a 3.5 % market share.
Given the large number of
units sold — more than 15 million to date, according to Apple — the market leader from California is the only
tablet maker able to obtain high end materials at low prices from component suppliers, thanks to its high volume of sales.

tablet devices shipped in the last quarter stand at a dismal 100,000,
units which looks even more puny compared to the 11.1 million iPads
sold during the same period.
Reports indicate Amazon has set a target of
selling close to 1.5 million Amazon - branded
tablets during the Q3 while shipping about 4.5 million to 5 million
units during the entire 2011.
Speaking of
tablets, what other device to bet on than the current market leader iPad that has
sold several million
units since its launch on April 3rd 2010.
The
tablet market grew 75.3 percent year - over-year, and increased 74.3 percent from the previous quarter's total of 30.1 million
units, helped along by holiday purchases, lower average
selling prices and a wider range of products.
Averaging about 1,000
