She was in Hawaii at the time, but she kindly had someone at her home
take the picture of the recipe and text it to me.

I actually thought
of this while we were away, when my brother and I were whipping up a batch
of homemade za'atar for a Middle Eastern dinner we were making, but I didn't note down the
recipe or
take pictures, so I made it again when we got home and am very glad to have a jar
of it in the pantry.
I have made these cookies 6 or 7 times over the past few months, but I kept forgetting to
take a
picture of them so I could post the
recipe.
I noticed you
took a
picture of your ingredients and I see a stick
of butter but you don't mention it in the
recipe.

Trying out new

recipe, finding a little story for it, all that is fun.
I was following a few food blogs and started
taking pictures of my own
recipes as a way to keep practicing my photography when it was too cold to shoot outside.

I literally put it together while Vivian was
taking perfect
pictures of another
recipe we created (which always
takes some time, haha!).
I have discovered that these
recipes should be followed pretty closely - every time I try to substitute or add a little less
of an ingredient it doesn't turn out the same, and it seems to
take me a second try to get each dessert just right, especially for the desserts which don't have
pictures in this book.
I'm often cooking or baking at this time... sampling new
recipes... getting prepped for
picture taking when the light is at its best... shooing everyone out
of the kitchen like a madwoman....
Today I'm
taking the «scary» out
of Homemade Hamburger Buns because if you follow this
recipe I promise you will get the same results
pictured.

Hi I just made these and doubled the
recipe and still ended up with 8 small cookies that were a crumbly mess upon
taking them out
of the oven... nothing like your

recipes, but for different reasons they never made it the whole way.

A few days ago, we found one
of our

of a so - called fitness celebrity, who
took full credit for.
However, during all
of that craziness, there was no time for actual blogging:

picture taking, writing, etc. and all the time I wanted to spend on creative endeavors was spent developing more grey hairs and increasing insomnia.
Teaching myself how to
take pictures of food has been one
of the most satisfying and fun parts
of creating this blog, but as a bit
of a perfectionist (ahem, understatement
of the century), I can be quite obsessive about my
recipe photos.
Try exploring books at the library, going on nature hikes, playing around with different
recipes in the kitchen, coloring,
taking pictures together, kicking the soccer ball at the park — the list
of simple, organic ways to explore various interests with your kids is endless.

Although, I will admit that the Christmas - card -

taking - process is NOT one that I'm a fan
of... Just because trying to wrangle a husband who admittedly dislikes getting his «
picture made,» a baby who is no longer a baby and does not want to sit still, and two dogs who are ready to chase any and all things they see... it's not exactly a
recipe for a great
picture.
