Now, as we set off from the station with the
story about a perpetually moving train at the
end of the world, some serious
talent has boarded the project.
Leaping to prominence with this expertly scripted ghost
story, the director seemed to have it all: a
talent for pacing and atmosphere, a Rod Serling-esque gift for a clever twist
ending (only one
of them at this point in his career), and an easy way with actors, especially this film's Haley Joel Osment, a rare horror Oscar nominee.

In truth, as a comedy, it's standard sitcom, and the broadly stereotypical characters are far beneath the
talent of the stars, but the
story does gain a bit
of traction in the more dramatic moments in which these men, nearing the
end of their lives, realize that they're no longer the spring chickens they used to be.
On the other
end of the
talent spectrum, Bruce Willis is not exactly the best person for his role (in fact, he is a bit
of a liability in terms
of the acting) but thankfully, doesn't do much damage, since it is the
story that is the main source for the film's success (and it's one hell
of a
story).
Moreover, thanks to an excellent style
of writing, the author has wonderfully outlined the devilish love
story where the main character, Susan, has
ended up, and this proves the great
talent of Linda S. Rice.
The
story, the voice
talent, and the dozens
of side missions (combined with a massive, explorable Gotham City) all contribute to a fitting
end to the Batman: Arkham saga.
