A new research - based practice guide, released today
by beyondblue, seeks to provide
teachers, families and
other professionals with everyday strategies to build resilience in young people and
teach them to think positively.
The inquiry will look into the quality of
teaching, the impact of the subject on young people and
teacher training for Holocaust education, as well as the absence of
teaching regarding
other genocides and the implementation of the recommendations made
by the Prime Minister's Holocaust Commission.
Regardless of whether or not

Yet, many
teachers at some point in their
teaching career become frustrated
by their students» inability to think creatively, and
others — as best exemplified
by Sir Ken Robinson's famous Ted Talk, blame schooling itself for killing the imagination.
It never occurred to me that
teachers would be «evaluated» based on the scores achieved
by other teachers» students or that districts would have to scramble to find any tests they could just so that they could claim to be evaluating
teachers, even those
teaching physical education or the arts, based on scores on standardized tests.

other hand, if I were commissioned to find a
teacher for a group of adolescent boys and if,
by some miracle, I could secure either Socrates or the latest Ph.D. from
Teachers College, with his equipment of the latest technologies and techniques of
teaching, with all due respect to the college that employs me and to my students, I am fairly certain that I would jump at the chance to get Socrates.

Growing interest in «blended learning» and
other classroom uses of technology, which help
teachers customize and individualize learning
by letting some students move at their own pace online while
teaching other kids in smaller, perhaps more homogeneous groups.
But not for all the usual reasons that people raise concerns: the worry about whether we've got good measures of
teacher performance, especially for instructors in subjects
other than reading and math; the likelihood that tying achievement to evaluations will spur
