The course is designed around frequent assignments that challenge degree
candidates to collect data
about their
teaching, and craft and implement action plans for improvement in response to those data.
A new teacher
candidate in Finland, for example, is given a copy of the elementary school curriculum, and the training over four years gives teachers deep understanding of the specific content they will
teach at each grade and subject, including all the possible questions and misunderstandings students might have
about that curriculum.
The teacher
candidates noted that they also benefited from seeing how such a learning environment could be structured so that student learners are allowed control over their learning (technological content knowledge), the use of acronyms to guide procedural knowledge development (technological pedagogical knowledge), and the level of technical skills required to
