Project (MET), revealed that even the very best observation approaches had limited success in identifying the
teachers also associated with the highest gains in pupil attainment.

After extensive research on
teacher evaluation procedures, the Measures of Effective Teaching
Project mentions three different measures to provide
teachers with feedback for growth: (1) classroom observations by peer - colleagues using validated scales such as the Framework for Teaching or the Classroom Assessment Scoring System, further described in Gathering Feedback for Teaching (PDF) and Learning About Teaching (PDF), (2) student
evaluations using the Tripod survey developed by Ron Ferguson from Harvard, which measures students» perceptions of
teachers» ability to care, control, clarify, challenge, captivate, confer, and consolidate, and (3) growth in student learning based on standardized test scores over multiple years.
During the training, we provided a grid of benchmarks to be met for each grade,
projects and activities they might do with their classes to meet those benchmarks, and
evaluation sheets to ensure that
teachers can show parents and administrators what skills students have successfully implemented and what deficiencies still need to be addressed.
These include standards - based
projects and assignments that require students to apply their knowledge and skills, such as designing a building or investigating the water quality of a nearby pond; clearly defined rubrics (or criteria) to facilitate a fair and consistent
evaluation of student work; and opportunities for students to benefit from the feedback of
teachers, peers, and outside experts.
The opportunities for reflection,
evaluation and goal - setting were what drove this
project and empowered
teachers to take ownership of the learning process.
The Best Foot Forward
project, run by the Center for Education Policy Research at Harvard University, is currently studying the impact of having
teachers videotape their own lessons and upload them for their own development and for
evaluation.
The purpose of this
project is to perform the
evaluation portion of a randomized control trial designed to assess the impact of The Match School Foundation, Inc.'s
teacher training program for novice
teachers on outcomes such as achievement growth of
teachers» students, principal ratings, and retention with the ultimate goal of improving K - 12 education.

The Excellence in Teaching
Project (EITP), a
teacher evaluation system also based on the Danielson framework, was piloted in Chicago Public Schools beginning in the fall of 2008.
The toolkit offers practical guidance that grew out of CEPR's Best Foot Forward
project, which set out to discover if it was possible to improve the classroom observation process by letting

Madison Parish Early Reading First Grant

project evaluated the implementation and impact of the Bright Futures Early Reading First
project on outcomes for children,
teachers, classrooms, and families in Madison Parish, Louisiana.
