YES Prep
teachers have created
evaluation rubrics that provide them, and observers, with a pragmatic guide for what YES Prep teaching should
look like in the classroom.
We had to revise the course when some district initiatives had changed, so we took the course, and
looked at what the
teacher evaluation rubric, and then planned backwards from there thinking about what we've heard from our content
teachers, what we've heard from our grade level
teachers.
Teachers also study the
rubric and its implications for teaching and learning,
look at and evaluate videotaped teaching episodes using the
rubric, and engage in practice
evaluations.
Because SEL is unique to each child, these core competencies can be used by
teachers to build their own SEL
rubrics, to know what to
look for in observation and narrative documentation about students» personal growth, and to evaluate school wide SEL programs and
evaluation methods.
