Since the
programme started in 2012, Historic England has provided direct support to more than 600 schools, and
training to 3000
teachers and trainee
teachers, reaching more than 500,000 schoolchildren across the country.
In order to achieve this, the Commission suggests the government should mandate all schools in the ten lowest performing local authorities to take part in area - wide
programmes, as well as reform the
training and distribution of
teachers across the country and create new incentives — including better
starting pay — to get more of the highest - quality
teachers into the schools that need them most.

start the
programmes in September, and their
training will be honoured.

programmes, syllabuses and curriculum frameworks.
A further 61 trainees will
start in September on the Troops to
Teachers programme which offers two years» on - the - job
training for ex-troops.
