in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) by Gary Chamberlain,
using the same data as Chetty and his colleagues, provides fodder both for skeptics and supporters of the
use of value - added: while confirming Chetty's finding that the

Under this grant, Dr. Alisa Kesler Lund and I
studied how fifth grade
teachers use lesson
study in history and social
studies.
The
study used a school - level, randomized, experimental design involving 113
teachers and 1,371 ninth - and 10th - grade students
in 60 high schools from eight metropolitan regions
in the United States.
A nonexperimental
study conducted by Robert Marzano and funded by Promethean found positive results for 79
teachers who
used the clickers
in conjunction with the boards.
A
study by Hammill Institute on Disabilities (Caldarella, Christensen, Young & Densley, 2011), looked at decreasing tardiness
in primary school - aged students
using teacher - written praise notes.
Instead, they ask partners to add school information (such as notifications about parent -
teacher conferences and report cards) to newsletters and bulletins, allow flexible work schedules for students, provide
study areas
in the workplace, and
use their voice and influence to encourage high school graduation.
