about baptism is that they had been
taught by the Apostle Paul and other Christian evangelists that
salvation and the promise of the resurrection of the dead and eternal life are received in Baptism, just as orthodox Christians, including Lutherans, have been

This is why theologians today can still illustrate important features of the Good News by looking at Paul's
teaching on circumcision, even though there is no live debate among Christians
about whether it is necessary for
salvation anymore.
So if we think that the word «
salvation» refers to «eternal life,» then the clear
teaching of Scripture is that receiving and keeping eternal life is conditional
about believing the right things and behaving in the right way.
Nevertheless, both are devoted to the personal vocation of man, though under different titles... [Yet] at all times and in all places, the Church should have the true freedom to
teach the faith, to proclaim its
teaching about society, to carry out its task among men without hindrance, and to pass moral judgment even in matters relating to politics whenever the fundamental rights of man or the
salvation of souls requires it» (Gaudium et Spes, 76).
