I have
taught Holmes» seminal lecture on «The Path of the Law» to law students
for many years, and have
noted that it «has been so influential in shaping the thinking of American lawyers that it might be described as almost part of the Constitution.»
In particular, we may
note that there are three points at which the Kingdom
teaching of the synoptic tradition tends to differ both from Judaism and from the early Church as represented by the remainder of the New Testament: in the use of the expression Kingdom of God
for (1) the final act of God in visiting and redeeming his people and (2) as a comprehensive term
for the blessings of salvation, i.e. things secured by that act of God, and (3) in speaking of the Kingdom as «coming».

On another
note Jesus affirmed the seriousness of rebellion against God, affirmed a coming judgment, and yet
taught his followers that they are to love their enemies and leave room
for the wrath of God.
On a personal
note, I am very happy to write because we as a family have much to thank Dr. Abraham
for - a man who as a pastor to us lived out the principles that he
teaches as a theological ethicist.
On Biblical grounds, we
note,

The analogy of being is the articulation of the
teaching of the Fourth Lateran Council: «
For between creator and creature there can be
noted no similarity so great that a greater dissimilarity can not be seen between them.»
When I had surgery
for my cancer last March, my brother in Texas who is a fundamentalist «christian» who preaches at how his little group has the Truth & the rest of us need to fall in line with what his church
teaches sent me a small
note saying he was praying
for me before the surgery.
It should also be
noted that just as in the case of the forgiveness of sins, so also in the case of the «coming of the Kingdom», the Lord's Prayer
teaches disciples to pray
for a continuation of that which they have already experienced: «Thy Kingdom come.»

The Church (and please
note I am not saying Jesus) ordered witch - hunt
for centuries to continue, the Church has been the greatest impediment to Science and Scientific Revolution, the Church wants to influence scientific
teachings (as in the Creationist theory) in public schools in a secular country — hence the bashing.
The emergence of both
notes, the one so clearly in keeping with the
