In our roles
teaching the social studies methods course to students enrolled in our teacher education program (TEP), we try to teach our students directly about the value of colearning within communities of praxis.

study of 65 elementary school teacher candidates enrolled in
social studies methods classes examined attitudes toward currently contentious curriculum issues before and after participation in a practicum experience
teaching an arts - integrated unit on Africa.
Because this
study focused on one particular, albeit successful, elementary
social studies teaching methods course, no cut - and - dried rules for SCOEs can be offered.
Given their stated lack of desire to

teaching social studies were positively influenced by the instructor's modeling of constructivist
teaching methods and her integration of technology into these

methods course, diagnosed that she would have
taught in a way that was boring, in part, because of her lack of knowledge about
social studies:

social studies methods course their other reading, mathematics, and science
