No goals yet but as a sporting spectacle both
teams are playing wide open and going for it.

's okay.
I do think with his skill he will figure out how to
play well with him, but I don't think we will ever get his best with the way the
team is currently set up unless we have a central striker who
is more comfortable on the wings and willing to step out
wide while Alexis roams around.
Ozil
was very ineffective in that no10 role, he doesn't get in between the lines, hes a good passer but he doesn't go past players at will and hes very 1 footed, he doesn't score enough goals to
be a no10 in a League or CL winning
team, i think we need either Cazorla or maybe Sanchez or even Chamberlain in that role in seasons to come, Ozil will have to
play wide coming in the way Messi did for Barca this season

the solution to the packing
teams are doing versus us at home
is to

're doing.
Mertz should never have
been our captain in the first place... who has ever heard of a
team that makes 11th hour transfer buys (Arteta & Mertz) then seemingly places those same individuals into prominent leadership positions from the get - go... indicative of the problems that have permeated our clubhouse for the better part of 7 years under the Kroenke & Wenger... what
is wrong with the players chosen and / or the management style of Wenger that doesn't develop and / or encourage strong leadership from within... Mertz
was the fine collecting lackey from year one... this
is what happens when you don't get world - class players because many times they want to have a voice on and off the pitch and this can't happen when you
play for a fragile manager who has developed a coddling wage structure where everyone
is rewarded for simply wearing the shirt and participating in the process... not enough balance between performance and pay, combined with the obvious favoritism shown to some players regardless of their glaring lack of production... remember that Ramsey has
played in positions that make no sense considering his skill - set (out
wide) and has forced other players off the field or into equally unfamiliar positions with little or no justification (let's remember when you read articles about how Ramsey's goals this upcoming season
being the potential X-factor for our success that this
is the same individual who didn't score a goal until the final week last season)... this of course
is just one example of many... before I hear another word from Mertz I want this club to address the fact that no former player of any real consequence has any important role in the management structure of this club, yet several former Gunners have expressed serious interest in just such an endeavor (Henry, Viera, Adams, Bergkamp... just to name a few legends)... there
is only one answer: an extremely insecure manager!!!
i would also like to ask wenger stop wasting players in particular positions, ramsay, wilshere, ozil, and cazola
playing wide leaves us with an unbalance
team, these
are central players, so
play them where they
are best suited.
Up front we have a few world - class players surrounded by some serious pretenders... Sanchez
is by far the most accomplished player in our attack but the controversy surrounding his contractual mishandling could see him go before the window closes or most definitely by season's end... obviously a mistake by both parties involved, as Sanchez's exploits have never
been more on display than in North London, but the club's irresponsible wage structure and lack of real intent have
been the real undoing in this mess... Lacazette, who I think has some world - class skills as a front man, will only
be as good as the players and system around him, which
is troubling due to our current roster and Wenger's love of sideways passing... Walcott should have
been sold years ago, enough said, and Welbeck should never have
been brought in from the get - go... both of these players have suffered numerous injuries over their respective careers and neither
are good enough to overcome such difficulties: not to mention, they both
are below average first - touch players, which should
be the baseline test for any player coming to a Wenger - led Arsenal
team... Perez should have
been played wide left or never purchased at all; what a huge waste of time and money, which
is ridiculous considering our penny pinching ways and the fact that fans had
been clamoring for a real striker for years... finally Giroud, the fact that he stills wears the jersey
is a direct indictment of this club's failure to get things right... this isn't necessarily an attack on Giroud because I think he has some highly valued skills, but not for a
team that has struggled to take their sideways soccer to the next level, as his presence slows their game even more, combined with our average, at best, finishing skills... far too often those in charge have either settled or chosen half - measures and ultimately it
is us that suffer because no matter what happens Wenger, Gazidis and Kroenke will always make more money whereas we will always
be the ones paying for their mistakes... so every time someone suggests we should just shut - up and support the
team just think of all the sacrifices you've made along the way and simply reply... f *** off
The guy kept our season afloat for the first 4 months with his goals, scored the goal to secure UCL group stages, scored both semi-final goals to take us to FA cup final,
is the club's top scorer, has
been involved in more goals + assists than anyone in the PL, scored more goals than the media's fave Costa from a deeper,
wider position,
plays every second of every game as if it

Welbeck and Walcott don't add the same qualities as Sanchez and OX bring to the

was very deep.

is currently third in - line for a role at centre - forward, but has
been fielded on the
wide left this term, and may find himself
being played out of his favoured role if he
is to break into the first -
team squad.
There
is no doubt that Ozil
is our best Number 10, but he should also
be capable of
playing out
wide if his
team needs him to.
My real concern
is up front, for the
wide positions and cf we have a total of 5 first
team players, Welbeck, Giroud, Walcott, Ox and Sanchez also Cazorla Ramsey and Ozil will
play a game or 2 out
wide but I really think we need either a winger or a striker, they don't even need to
be out of this world someone like Mertens, Callejon, Pedro, Immobile, Llorente, Austin, Pelle would do.
His physical
play on
wide receiver blocks required that he often
be double
teamed on bubble screens...
He needs to
be ruthless and drop either Cazorla or Ramsey and
play balanced
team with two
wide players Walcott / Ox on right.
This
is an incredibly difficult question to answer for a variety of reasons, most importantly because over the years our once vaunted «beautiful» style of
play has become a shadow of it
's former self, only to
be replaced by a less than stellar «plug and
play» mentality where players
play out of position and adjustments / substitutions
are rarely forthcoming before the 75th minute... if you look at our current players, very few would make sense in the traditional Wengerian system... at present, we don't have the personnel to move the ball quickly from deep - lying position, efficient one touch midfielders that can make the necessary through balls or the disciplined and pacey forwards to stretch defences into
wide positions, without the aid of the backs coming up into the final 3rd, so that we can attack the defensive lanes in the same clinical fashion we did years ago... on this current squad, we have only 1 central defender on staf, Mustafi, who seems to have any prowess in the offensive zone or who can even pass two zones through so that we can advance
play quickly out of our own end (I have seen some inklings that suggest Holding might have some offensive qualities but too early to tell)... unfortunately Mustafi has a tendency to get himself in trouble when he gets overly aggressive on the ball... from our backs out
wide, we've seen pace from the likes of Bellerin and Gibbs and the spirited albeit offensively stunted
play of Monreal, but none of these players possess the skill - set required in the offensive zone for the new Wenger scheme which requires deft touches, timely runs to the baseline and consistent crossing, especially when Giroud
was playing and his ratio of scored goals per clear chances
was relatively low (better last year though)... obviously I like Bellerin
's future prospects, as you can't teach pace, but I do worry that he regressed last season, which
was obvious to Wenger because there
was no way he would have used Ox as the right side wing - back so often knowing that Barcelona could come calling in the off - season, if he thought otherwise... as for our midfielders, not a single one, minus the more confident Xhaka I watched
played for the Swiss national
team a couple years ago, who truly makes sense under the traditional Wenger model... Ramsey holds onto the ball too long, gives the ball away cheaply far too often and abandons his defensive responsibilities on a regular basis (doesn't score enough recently to justify): that
being said, I've always thought he does possess a little something special, unfortunately he thinks so too... Xhaka
is a little too slow to ever boss the midfield and he tends to telegraph his one true strength, his long ball
play: although I must admit he did get a bit better during some points in the latter part of last season... it always made me wonder why whenever he
played with Coq Wenger always seemed to
play Francis in a more advanced role on the pitch... as for Coq, he
is way too reckless at the wrong times and has exhibited little offensive prowess yet finds himself in and around the box far too often... let
's face it Wenger
was ready to throw him in the trash heap when injuries forced him to use Francis and then he had the nerve to act like this
was all part of a bigger Wenger constructed plan... he like Ramsey, Xhaka and Elneny don't offer the skills necessary to satisfy the quick transitory nature of our old offensive scheme or the stout defensive mindset needed to protect the defensive zone so that our offensive players can remain aggressive in the final third... on the front end, we have Ozil, a player of immense skill but stunted by his physical demeanor that tends to offend, the fact that he
's been played out of position far too many times since arriving and that the players in front of him, minus Sanchez, make little to no sense considering what he has to offer (especially Giroud); just think about the quick counter-attack offence in Real or the space and protection he receives in the German National
team's midfield, where
teams couldn't afford to focus too heavily on one individual... this player
was a passing «specialist» long before he arrived in North London, so only an arrogant or ignorant individual would try to reinvent the wheel and / or not surround such a talent with the necessary components... in regards to Ox, Walcott and Welbeck, although they all possess serious talents I see them in large part as headless chickens who
are on the injury table too much, lack the necessary first - touch and / or lack the finishing flair to warrant their inclusion in a regular starting eleven; I would say that, of the 3, Ox showed the most upside once we went to a back 3, but even he became a bit too consumed by his pending contract talks before the season ended and that concerned me a bit... if I had to choose one of those 3 players to stay on it would
be Ox due to his potential as a plausible alternative to Bellerin in that wing - back position should we continue to use that formation... in Sanchez, we get one of the most committed skill players we've seen on this squad for some years but that could all change soon, if it hasn't already of course... strangely enough, even he doesn't make sense given the constructs of the original Wenger offensive model because he holds onto the ball too long and he will give the ball up a little too often in the offensive zone... a fact that
is largely forgotten due to his infectious energy and the fact that the numbers he has achieved seem to justify the means... finally, and in many ways most crucially, Giroud, there
is nothing about this
team or the offensive system that Wenger has traditionally employed that would even suggest such a player would make sense as a starter... too slow, too inefficient and way too easily dispossessed... once again, I think he has some special skills and, at times, has showed some world - class qualities but he
's lack of mobility
is an albatross around the necks of our offence... so when you ask who would
be our best starting 11, I don't have a clue because of the 5 or 6 players that truly deserve a place in this side, 1 just arrived, 3 aren't under contract beyond 2018 and the other
was just sold to Juve... man, this
is theraputic because following this
team is like an addiction to heroin without the benefits
Willian
is excellent defensively but he doesn't give Chelsea the natural width other
teams get from
wide forwards, which isn't surprising because he isn't a winger he
played as a no. 10 for Shaktar.
One of the biggest reasons for the Bengals» offensive struggles
was the
team's inablity to get the ball into the hands of their biggest
play - maker,
wide receiver A.J. Green.
i know silva
plays wide too, but look at city's
team, they have solid midfielders to cover up and silva's work rate
is a lot higher than ozil's.
Aaron Ramsey also makes the
team and I can only assume he will
play out
wide as Ozil will
be in his usual number 10 role.
it might work against smaller
teams when we would have all the possession but i do nt expect ozil to
be playing wide against city.
Absent a league -
wide policy or decision - making body in situations like this, I
'm okay with the
team keeping him until it
plays out further, even if they look like bad guys in the process.
If he wants the Iniesta / Xavi combo that he craves, then it
's Mesut and santi (look how well he and the
team are doing not
playing wide for Jack) and a proper Yaya / Busquets type CDM.
However with Arsenal Ozil often
plays wide, rather than centrally in mid field and
is not supported by robust ball winning / defensive midfielders, as he
is when
playing for the German national
team.
No matter how you slice it, you can't run an uptempo offence with Giroud on the pitch and that means sideways soccer and an over-reliance on crosses into the box, thereby negating many of the very reasons Lacazette
was on your radar in the first place... we simply aren't clinical enough from
wide positions to continue with that approach, which
is why many fans have
been clamoring for a viable alternative to Giroud for several years... once again this isn't an attack on Giroud, he clearly has some tangible skills, but his mere presence on the pitch greatly impacts your tactical options... Giroud's weaknesses
are simply highlighted by the way in which our offence now moves in a more horizontal than vertical manner, which allows most
teams ample time to regroup defensively before a scoring opportunity even arises... a player of Ibra's or Benzema's ilk would have
been far more effective as they had size, speed and the first touch capabilities required to for intricate link - up
play... once again square peg in a round hole
Alone up front
playing for a possession
team is not that environment nor
is playing wide in a possession
team.
A 4 -3-3 system
is favoured by Barca, Real Madrid and Man City and Bayern, the top four
teams in Europe. It suits the attacking philosophy of Arsene Wenger which
is to his credit.Unfortunately we do not have the top quality defenders these
teams have nor a dominant DM.Nevertheless it
is the best system for our current
team which
is top heavy in attacking midfielders hence the need to
play Ozil and Mik in
wide positions. In my opinion the most balanced central midfield would consist of Elneny, Ramsay and Wilshere.Elneny
was first class against Watford yet
was left out against an average Milan side to accommodate the ever present Xhaka who will no doubt feature against CSK.
was it just me that
was nervous everytime reading
were attacking it made me realise how confident ospina makes me feel i hope he
plays final ramsey on wing isnt as effective against lesser opposition we needed pace out
wide (as when theo came on he caused problems) giroud has developed into a world class forward on his day the
team was lifted when
was on alexis
is a life saver win vs chelsea break the wenger - mourinho hoodoo, 2nd in prem and fa cup will
be a fantastic season COYG
I think the
team is fine
playing the narrow formation we have right now, but if we continue to
play with it I would like to see more long shots to vary the offense and maybe a few more
wide overlaps from Ozil and Cazorla.
Ramsey has had one good season for us since his horrible injury, he needlessly gives the ball away much too often and his finishing
is even worse than Giroud's... once again we have fallen in love with the idea of what could have
been... Ramsey has only scored 2 meaningful goals in his entire Arsenal tenure: one in Turkey and the other in last year's FA Cup, which
is not near enough to make him a centerpiece of this offence... likewise simply his presence on the
team sheet has led Wenger into making horrible tactical blunders because he will force Ramsey into the lineup even when it doesn't make sense... just think of all those games when Ramsey
was played out
wide on the right, which forced the RB to come up into the
play far more often, and deeper, because Ramsey invariably would find himself in a more central position leaving us far more vulnerable to the counterattack..
As it stands, this squad
is fairly well positioned to compete for the Wenger Cup and make a deep run in the Europa, if and only if we
play first stringers in Europe and use the bench for the League and FA Cups... that
being said, and based on the fragility of the manager and the
team in recent campaigns, it
's more likely that Wenger will focus on a top 4 finish and the FA Cup... while the reasons for such an approach may appear logical, it would confirm a rather disturbing trend and appear counter intuitive for any
team which claims to have higher aspirations... I feel that Wenger simply can't afford to put all his eggs in the Europa basket because if he fails the potential backlash could cripple any top 4 chances due to the aforementioned fragile psyche that tends to rear it
's ugly head like our own personal groundhog day each and every February... furthermore, can you even imagine Wenger bringing in the necessary recruits to adequately supply top quality lineups in a Thursday / Sunday dominated schedule; based on everything I've seen in recent years, I can't see that happening... in fact, mark my words, it
's more likely that we see Lacazette
playing out
wide in Alexis
's position with Giroud at striker, than we see Wenger make the necessary moves to right this ship... god, I hope I
'm wrong but
is it really that far - fetched considering what we've witnessed for past several years
Manuel Pellegrini only
plays one way, he will simply try to out football you, in Spain packing defenses and forcing
teams out
wide isn't a common occurrence and Pellegrini struggles with that.
24 - year - old
wide - man Cheryshev has represented Real Madrid for over a decade but
is still yet to
play a single La Liga fixture for the Bernabeu side and
is behind the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Isco and James Rodriguez in the club's first -
team pecking order.
So Giroud's inclusion
was good but the battle
was lost in the midfield, Spurs
played exactly like you should have vs a
team sitting deep, push the ball out
wide, spread the full backs and put the ball in behind and apply waves of pressure.
giroud would
play on the wing if asked (he seems a honest player like that) i
am sure, its just that he would struggle out there to do what a
wide forward could, at his age his skill sets
are unchangeable usually generally he
is a c / f and that
's what he
is good at but i could
be wrong though, as for cavani he seems to openly want to refuse to
play on the wing (i think he
plays there grudgingly atm) and states it publicly thus undermining his managers ability to know here to place him in the
team team wenger wont have this from any player at arsenal
As you pointed out — his top tally
was 21...
playing from
wide in a
team half as talented as our current one.
And it
's best when arguably the best 10 in our
team is used in the central role and not
played out of position out
wide, agree?
