The filmmaker never pulls us into the twists and turns of her main character's mind, and she tiptoes
around, rather than tackles, her ideas about class envy, the performative nature of
identity and the
tension between truth and happiness.
Charley's father is AWOL, he lives with his mom, Jane (Toni Collette), and much of the film's
tension revolves
around his attempts to forge a new
identity as protector of the womenfolk while still trapped in Anton Yelchin's body.
