What he fails to spell out in detail here but indicates elsewhere (e.g., PR 96-98/147 -150) is that the extensive

of actual occasions but an interlocking network
of communities or societies
of occasions, each
of which possesses its own laws and proper dynamism.

continuum is the background matrix in

continuum.

The conclusion I want to pull out
of these considerations is this: if there is at least one actual entity in the world characterized by at least one eternal object, one specific form
of definiteness, then this actual entity provides all the ontological ground required for the realm
of eternal objects — an appeal to God is not necessary.11 And, indeed, in Whitehead, as in Aristotle, there is an eternity and an abeternity
of becoming so that within the
terms of the system it is inconceivable that there be any region
of the extensive
continuum, no matter how far it be extended fore or aft, where there is not a generation
of actual entities exhibiting concrete forms
of definiteness.
All that Bergson really says is that we can not know disorder without making it into an order
of some sort first, and points out that the relation between the «two directions
of order» is really a
continuum that we distinguish on the basis

terms Gunter recommends) for the purposes
of talking about this issue.

Whitehead offers an alternative formulation and claims on behalf
of his formulation that it can account for all experimental results accounted for by the Einsteinian formulation but that it represents a different interpretation
of these results in
terms of a more adequate concept
of nature (PNK vi; CN vii, 182; IS 125 - 35).18 The major theoretical difference between the two formulations is that whereas in the Einsteinian formulation the metric structure
of the space - time
continuum is variable from point to point and in differing directions (that is, heterogeneous and nonisotropic), in the Whiteheadian formulation the metric structure
of the space - time
continuum is uniform from point to point and in differing directions (that is, homogeneous and isotropic).
While the words «life» and «mind» refer to aspects
