The young star of the
film, newcomer Josh Wiggins is absolutely
terrific, outshining multiple award winning
actors and actresses
in this
film, but he's not the only difference here.
With a solid voice cast that emphasizes their vocal work over their star power (there are recognizable
actors in a few roles such as Bratt and Bernal (Blindness), but none that cast
in order to sell the
film commercially), a vibrant color scheme, outstanding visuals,
terrific toe - tapping tunes, and an imaginative concept, this will likely go down as a favorite Pixar
film for many who follow the animation company's output religiously.
Anchored with a lovely, subtle sad eyed performance by the beautiful Keri Russell and a cast of
terrific comedic prodigy
actors, including the great Andy Griffith
in his last
film appearance as the crusty diner owner.
It's
terrific that this
actor and the industry around him has insisted and / or at least allowed a mix of credits, with
films as diverse as The Ghost Writer and The Matador
in there with the 007s and Mama Mias.
It's a
terrific performance, a starkly physical turn from an
actor most associated with states of tortured introspection (although there's much of that
in the
film too).
The child
actors are
terrific little Duracell batteries of rambunctious energy, and as the trio cuts an unsupervised path of mischief across the property — spitting on cars, roughhousing
in abandoned buildings, chattering nonstop — The Florida Project conjures a sense of carefree everyday adventure that lesser
films about childhood only wish they could summon.
When you have a
film with such
terrific actors like Al Pacino (The Recruit) and Christopher Walken (Kangaroo Jack), and such easy - to - watch personalities like Affleck and J.Lo, the horrendously misguided dialogue and lack of vision to the storytelling only become more pronounced, akin to performing the Macarena
in the middle of a ballet, or having the diva of an opera perform a beatbox
in the middle of her aria.
Tye Sheridan (from «Tree of Life» and the upcoming David Gordon Green
film, «Joe,» which so far
in a brief career makes him three for three
in working with
terrific filmmakers) and his co-star Jacob Lofland (
in his
film acting debut) transcend the child
actor ghetto (saying they're good for being kid
actors is wildly understating it).
Canet is mostly known
in the U.S. as an
actor or Marion Cotillard's baby daddy, but anyone who saw the overlooked and taut 2006 thriller «Tell No One» knows he's akin to the Gallic version of Ben Affleck — an
actor who has bloomed into a
terrific director (maybe not so coincidentally, Affleck's been trying to remake Canet's
film).
Cumberbatch really has no purpose
in this
film, and he is a
terrific actor.
Not bad at all if you're going to draw inspiration from the world of
films, though the solid laughs, exciting thrills and the
terrific comic interplay of its two leads are more like occasional chuckles, lots of noise and violence without much tension, and two passable comic performances from
actors who aren't particularly known for their comedic chops
in Russell Crowe (Noah, Winter's Tale) and Ryan Gosling (The Big Short, Gangster Squad).
12 Angry Men — Sidney Lumet's classic
film debut about a jury's deliberations
in a murder case has a
terrific, all - star cast, featuring great performances from Henry Fonda, Lee J. Cobb, along with character
actors Martn Balsam, E. G. Marshall, Jack Klugman, Jack Warden and Ed Begley.
His career stretches back to the late 1990s, but the string of
films he's made
in this decade, including The Innkeepers, Compliance, and Small Crimes., show that he has
terrific range as an
actor.
In a tribute to Roy Rogers and famed stuntman Yakima Canutt, there is a segment on popular westerns featuring Alden Ehrenreich (Beautiful Creatures, 2013) as Hobie Doyle, a popular
actor whose an artist with a rope and horse and guitar, but not so smooth on his transition to the parlor dramas being
filmed by demanding director Laurence Laurentz (a
terrific Ralph Fiennes).
Julian Dennison is the
actor and he's a scene - stealer just as he was
in the
terrific New Zealand
film The Hunt For the Wilderpeople, a must - see if you missed it.
