Since I've been trying to remix more pieces in my wardrobe rather
than buying too many new pieces, I paired my new
skirt with a simple t - shirt I already own (you could easily swap it out for a cotton or silk button down for more formal work environments), my classic J.Crew blazer and my favorite pair of D'orsay heels.
Since it is warmer now
than it was in the Winter, I have brought out my
skirts!
I've been waiting to wear this
skirt since the last month of my pregnancy, together with a similar one in burgundy, the grey a-line
skirt I was wearing the other day, and tons of chunky knits — which I could have worn during my pregnancy, but let's be honest, those would have made me look even bigger
than I already was.
Since my new job is a little dressier
than my old job, I've been slowly incorporating a few more tailored pieces like this Ann Taylor tie sleeve top and Banana Republic military
skirt into my wardrobe.
As I'm 5ft 7 it comes up a bit shorter on me
than a true vintage style high - waisted
skirt, but
since it reaches my knees I'm okay with that.
I recently purchased some cotton twill to make two Sewaholic Hollyburn
skirts, and
since it's now sinking in that I'm more of a pear
than I was before losing a bit of weight, that should work out nicely for me, in theory (
since Tasia's line is geared towards pear shapes).
The maxi
skirt I'm wearing in the photos would not be one I would wear in the summer,
since it is much thicker
than a lot of the maxi
skirts I've tried on.
I'm also glad that I decided to alter the original cocktail dress into this
skirt since I have been able to wear it more often
than I ever wore the dress (see here).
Now that I think about it, wearing the bodysuit was actually MORE comfortable
than tucking a top into the
skirt would have been
since I'm always paranoid that the hem is going to pop out.
It feels like it's been ages
since I last wore this
skirt, so what better way to bring it back
than pairing it with a cozy button up and this fabulous print bag.
I know it's been less
than a month
since you last saw this
skirt... and I do try to do a slightly better job of not being a repeat offender when it comes to my outfit posts.
Now I alternate between two approaches on weekends — utilitarian - comfort - me (yes, I am one of those people who wears yoga pants and a wrap top to run some weekend errands
since chances are, I am going to yoga at some point immediately before or after) or the weekend - real - me which is edgier / more downtown
than the more uptown pencil -
skirt work - week me.
The pocket placement is questionable — it's like a chorus that sings hiiiiippppppssssss but
since the
skirt runs large it's less of an issue
than it could be.
Scarves are my go - to there,
since they fit in the purse even more easily
than a cardi, are soft and cozy, and can be used to target your child spots — maybe you're in a
skirt and it's actually your legs that are cold, or your arms are chilly but your torso is warm.
