This is a term that was developed by hobby breeders hoping to drive up the price of puppies that are technically nothing
more than mixed breed dogs (also known as mutts).
In a Purdue University study of records from 12 veterinary hospitals, researchers found that purebred dogs were 2.5 times more likely to develop
GDV than mixed breed dogs.
More than 47 percent of the 4582 stray dogs were purebred, but they were reclaimed at a higher rate and with fewer days in the
shelter than mixed breed dogs.
Although purebred dogs do have a higher incidence of some inherited disorders, they are no more likely to develop many serious health conditions, such as cancer, heart disorders and endocrine disorders,
than mixed breed dogs.
«Goldendoodles» are nothing more
than mixed breed dogs.
