then soak the dates in the tea while it brews.

Hi, I use «
date paste» to sweeten drinks — you basically just
soak dates in water until they are soft (for a few hours or overnight),
then blend in a blender or food processor until a paste forms, using as much of the water as required.

Making a
date puree to use in your shakes is as easy as

dates were soft though, it sounds like you just needed to run the food processor a bit more.
