I have had some changes in my
theology regarding church, and I now believe that we don't plant churches or go to church, but we ARE the church by
loving the people
around us whom God brings into our lives.
While it took me some time to work through the
theology around it, once I accepted it as
loving there was no further doubt in my mind that I could never go back to believing that God was against that
love.
If everything we do from the first awakening breath of our day until we close our eyes at night doesn't reek of
love; if our
theology, doctrine, missional statements and creeds are born out of a need to «convert» rather than a deep and innate need to
love those
around us (aka, our neighbors), than all we have become is an annoyance and a disgrace to the communities
around us, (clanging cymbals, anyone?)
The sentiment behind the interview and its fallout is as clear as it is absurd: It matters not how a professing Christian
loves, or how much fruit of the spirit is exhibited in his or her life; the only way to determine whether someone is a «real Christian» is to sit
around a coffee table and talk about
theology.
At that site, we want to focus on taking the Free Grace
theology we all know and
love, and putting it into practice in our churches, in our communities, and
around the world.
If we're not caring about,
loving and engaging with those
around us that is certain proof that our «
theology» is worthless.

The problem with paper
theology is that it attempts to build
love around theology.
I run this blog to write about Scripture and
theology, and to interact with other people
around the world who have similar ideas about knowing God, following Jesus, and
loving others.
I guess I don't feel like I can go
around and speak about Jesus and what relationship with God is all about because the more I see people who seem to «get it wrong» and who have good hearts but bad
theology, good intentions and bad expressions of
love... the more I become afraid that I will just become part of the problem and not the solution.
And we know the people too, not merely as strange faces gathered
around the Table but as the Alabama fan, the new mom, the student who
loves talking
theology, the quilting club, the recovering fundamentalists, the friends.
Statist politicians are absolutely in
love with global warming
theology, because it lets them shake corporations down for cash, seize control of industries, use tax money to forge crony relationships with major donors, and shove the Little People
around.
