There are a number of indicators we use to judge our schools, such as test scores,
graduation rates, and accountability ratings.
We can't get
there by talking about numbers like standardized test scores, which will always be a reflection of the wealth or poverty of the students» parents, or
graduation rates, which can be manipulated simply
by redefining the course requirements or eliminating low achieving students.
We promise to be
there for our students after
graduation by providing them support and tools that will help them to live sustainable lives.
The progress that has been made is that the
graduation rates
by state, district, and school are much better because
there are common administrative definitions that require documentation of transfers, etc... No Child Left Behind required states to use their student databases to set an on - time
graduation date for each student and to document transfers.
