Now imagine that the planet gets completely surrounded by
a thin black steel shell, located a few thousand metres above the surface, as shown in a cutaway view in the picture above, and in Figure 1 below.

This year, it's back with a premium version: Pebble
Steel has the same features as the original Pebble watch (ePaper display, weeklong batter life, waterproof design), but it comes in a smaller,
thinner package with a subtler finish (brushed stainless or
black matte).
The Pacer X was available in only three colors (
black, white and wine red), carried body - colored bumpers and had most bright items deleted, was applied with unique
thin golden stripes surrounding the door and side glass areas extending through the roof from side to side, used VAM's eight - spoke sports
steel wheels painted in gold with
blacked out volcano hubcaps, rear and side glass moldings were also
blacked out and the lower front corners of the doors had «Pacer X» decals in place.
«V (planchette)» (2014), whose smooth aluminum surface is painted a chalky
black, swerves from wide at its base to slight at its middle and swells again at its top, resembling an hourglass shape when seen from a certain angle, whereas «X» (2013), is just that, in mirrored and polished stainless
steel, with its
thin, shiny strips arched upwards, criss - crossing parallel to the surface of the ground, each bending under like strange feet or paws to support itself.
Some of those I'd been most drawn to appeared reduced, hardened and flattened, a little too obvious: the 1973 expanse of white Enamelac on an aluminium base that shows in a
thin line down the left - hand side and along the bottom; a row of square pieces from the same year, their fat L - shapes of
black (oxidised copper, apparently) set off by smaller white baked - enamel squares; and 1985's Catalyst III, with its
steel bolts and
thin, intermittent lines of
black enamel seeming to divide the aluminium base and contain it in a pointedly incomplete frame.
Dupont writes: «Serra's use of paintstick and insistence on drawing as
black poses an interesting dichotomy with the metal plates of his sculpture... the surfaces [of his sculptures] are in fact incredibly painterly, with texture and color on a
thin skin that is delightful in spite of what I am sure is Serra's desire to the contrary... The irony of the paintstick drawings is that the works with literal paint are less «painterly» than those mad of lead and
steel plates.

thin layer of
black concrete infused with the sparkle of diamond dust.
A
thin strip of
black plastic runs around the sides of the watch, framing the silver version attractively and being barely visible on the
black — its purpose is to maintain the same Bluetooth transmission performance as on the original even while encased in the Faraday cage that is an all -
steel case.
Our review model had the stainless
steel gold case and
black watch strap, and we loved how
thin and lightweight it felt.
