The job of an
educator is to educate people and children
about things.
Many home
educators belong to sports teams or play in orchestras, and are generally far more relaxed
about these
things than their schooled contemporaries because they have so much more time available — and less need to compete.
I think teaching children food literacy (especially how what we eat is connected to so many
things we all care
about, including the environment, health and poverty) is one of the most important
things we can do as parents and
educators.

things we do is to also teach their parents, which is done formally through our parent

things to me is the general lack of capacity to be able to talk
about issues of race,» Benavides says, recognizing that they too questioned how they would respond to such an incident as

Slowly, I found myself following
educators who were tweeting
about things I am interested in: students, education, literacy, writing, edreform, student voice.

about their work and the
things they care
about most.
So Mr. Bruni actually sought input from sources that know a few
things about teachers and schools (even if
Educators Rising has a logo unfortunately reminiscent of Enron's).
It is no wonder that
educators are skeptical and cynical
about taking on the next «best
thing.»
Critics on the left have taken issue with a number of
things surrounding the standards (you can read a post
about eight problems with the Core here), saying that there was not enough input from
educators into the drafting of the Core, that the standards are not based on any research, that they ignore what is known
about early childhood development and much more.
So
educators, here are some
things to think
about and consider if you are thinking
about or already using the flipped classroom model.

I was talking to a group of
educators recently who were concerned
about this very
thing and thinking how do we build a better connection with families who are very busy, lead busy lives, and they relocated the sign - in book, the sign - in process, to another part of the room.
All the more reason why in those contexts early childhood
educators need to have good systems, good policies, strong philosophies, good communication techniques, to be able to communicate with a number of different people
about different
things at different times.
One of the
things we do ask early childhood
educators to do in the context of quality practise is to be reflective, is to take time to talk to each other
about how we are travelling as
educators.
I think
educators know that the team is doing well when there are conversations going on all the time
about how we're travelling, how we're feeling
about things.
One of those
things that does act as a pretty powerful disincentive for speaking to an
educator, is when there's a track record that's built up of the
educators or the director or whoever you've been dealing with, not following through, so you may have had discussions
about something that's concerning you
about your child and how they are fitting in or how they are coping with certain
things, and you've been assured that changes will be made and your child will be accommodated, but then you discover that that hasn't been done or maybe it was done for the first week and then it just dissipated.
One of the other
things that I like is when
educators share some of their anxieties, or joys
about the children in their care to their parents.
The other
thing of course, as lots of
educators I know will say there's nothing going on in our community, there's nothing happening, it's just a very ordinary suburb, but I do think looking beyond the four walls of your service, just to be aware and mindful
about what's going on you, will notice
things that are interesting.
