thought things couldn't get any better for
Phantasy Star Online 2's future, Sega surprises us even further, announcing that we'll be able to take the game with us on the go in more ways than one.
Last year, we took to the mic and gave you our
thoughts on the
Phantasy Star Online series.
Overall I enjoyed
Phantasy Star 2, but always, even at the time,
thought of it as a disappointing sequel.
To that end, we spent a lot of time
thinking about how to make the game even more «
Phantasy Star» - ish than before.
We were
thinking that after the events of
Phantasy Star, Myau's kittens all become the pets of the people who were living there.
Yoshida: Regarding the lives of the characters after the ending of
Phantasy Star II... I'm not sure I can say we never
thought about it, but its more to the point that we wanted players to be free to imagine it for themselves.

think the success of
Phantasy Star lies in the fact that the development staff was given the freedom to make the game we wanted, without restrictions or control.
Speaking of music, I
think the SST band, a group composed of Sega Sound Staff, was formed just around the time
Phantasy Star was released.
I don't
think we've ever had as difficult a time setting the price for a game as we did with
Phantasy Star II, actually.
In the original character design for Lutz from
Phantasy Star, his personality was very weak and undefined, so Yuji
thought Lutz would be a bland protagonist for
Phantasy Star II if we just used him as - is.
For my part, though, I
think the main draw of video games is their overt use of sound and visuals, and that's what we have pursued in the
Phantasy Star series.

Phantasy Star.

Phantasy Star games has mainly been in terms of graphics and visual presentation.

Massively OP reader Francois recently pointed us to IGN's Top 100 RPGs of All Time, which we
thought was worth a nod since unlike many such lists, it includes several early MMORPGs: including EverQuest (100), EVE Online (81),
Phantasy Star Online (63), and of course, World of Warcraft (5), plus other multiplayer games we've covered in the past, like Diablo II, Titan Quest, Torchlight II, Stardew Valley, Neverwinter Nights, and more Ultima, Elder Scrolls, and Final Fantasy franchise games than you can shake an ancient console cartridge at.
If you've ever played any of the recent
Phantasy Star games (Online or Portable),
think just like those.
While this could be seen as terrible news to some, especially those of us who've been waiting impatiently for
Phantasy Star Online 2, I
think we should caution giving up hope too soon.
But do you
think that the Resonance of Fate franchise deserves to go first instead of a classic franchise like
Phantasy Star?

think at the time
Phantasy Star Online was just about to come out.

I can be optimistic and wait but I
think I speak for everyone when I say our interesting in
Phantasy Star is dying by the day.
Think of RPGs on the Genesis and series like
Phantasy Star or Shining (Shining Force, Shining in the Darkness) will probably spring to mind.
Another things to keep in mind: exactly how big do you
think the hardcore
Phantasy Star fanbase is?
One of the things I
think most of us would like to see is a global
Phantasy Star community.
Heck, it'd be so darn nice to see Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, and Super Mario RPG up there, especially after seeing that the only halfway decent RPGs we've been seeing on VC are the
Phantasy Star games (all three, no less, which I
think is a bit overkill).

Think about it, at that point, theres no telling what possible income that might be... See, if people wanted to, they could buy Arks Cash every month to get the premium services, which would make it seem like a sub fee, but it's not, because it's not required since it is a free to play game (unless you like to have the services all the time).
