I like how text lays out on the larger screen and
I think page buttons should be standard on all ebook readers.

The combination of a very intuitive user interface, an export - to - csv -
button on * every *
page and the ability to zoom in to nearly anything you could
think of to analyze, makes it an invaluable tool for anyone who takes link building seriously.

I wish they all had good
page - turn
buttons — you'd
think the hardware would be optimized for the most common action that people perform when using e-readers, but that's unfortunately not the case.
If you
think about the Amazon
page, product placement is just below and to the right of the actual buy
button.
They took care of all the behind - the - scenes stuff that I know nothing about, and even made some fantastic suggestions that I hadn't
thought of — like adding a «buy now»
button in a sidebar on the Home
page, so viewers could go directly to my book.
I don't
think the Kindle Voyage is for me, at any price point, because the haptic feedback on the
page - turn
buttons would surely jolt me out of my book world and right back into real life.
I can see how audio would be popular, but I
think it better could be improved instead with: —
page turn
buttons; — greater processing power / speed for better responsiveness; — better pdf support for manga / comics / textbooks; — and color e-ink and higher ppi for displaying maps and book covers as well reading manga / comics / magazines (which are still sometimes fuzzy or hard to read at 300 ppi, in my opinion).
I could hold the stylus in my gloved hand a use it to turn
pages just fine, but I
think that a couple of
buttons on the next PaperWhite would be a good addition.
I
think page turn
buttons are tremendous on e-readers.
I
thought about getting a Kobo Mini but I decided I'd rather have something with
page buttons and the Sony PRS - 350 fits that bill perfectly, and it's small enough to fit into a pocket and you can hardly tell it's there.
(I
think the Kindle Paperwhite would be improved with a Home
button too, but that's not as big a deal as
page - turning.)
The most anticipated is the second generation Kindle Voyage, which is
thought to forgo the haptic
page turn
buttons and use the new Freescale IMX7 processor.
Nielsen also derided the Kindle Fire's lack of physical
buttons for turning e-book
pages, but again, that's true of every tablet on the market (and I don't
think it's as frustrating as Nielsen makes it out to be).
I
think it will be easier to turn the
pages during a long cold Minnesota winter by pressing the «
button» with my thumb compared to tapping the screen with a finger.
I
thought maybe I got a bad epub file, so I went back to that previous
page in the book and did the
button page turns and it read just fine past the point when I had been swiping.
I
thought that I would really like the PagePress sensors for turning
paging because I favor using hardware
buttons for turning
pages like on the Onyx Boox T68, just resting your thumb on a
button and not having to move it every thirty seconds to
page forward is nice, but so far the
page sensors on the Kindle Voyage really aren't doing it for me.
But I
think Amazon has sped up its price - matching process from the
button on the product
page since then.
I
think it's a shame Amazon left out the physical
buttons for flipping
pages.
Screen - only
buttons mean you have to hold the Kobo Touch Edition in your right hand, so you can tap the right side of the screen to change
pages, but
buttons on both bezels, which both the Nook and the Amazon Kindle ($ 139 - $ 189, 4 stars) have, means you can hold the device any way you can
think of.
The only somewhat unintuitive aspect of the interface is the Back
button in the reading screen: I
thought that clicking it would turn the book a
page back, but the
button turns out to be inactive unless you've used one of the Go To navigation options, in which case clicking Back returns you to wherever you were before you jumped around.
Haven't decided what I
think about the change in size and «firmness» of the
page turn
buttons yet.
While I appreciate the touch interface, personally, I don't
think I'd buy an e-reader that completely lacked physical
page turn
buttons.
You'd
think that physical
page buttons would've come up in these customer discussions, wouldn't you?
Nothing wrong with that, but a large, round two - part
button on the bottom right, which I
thought would turn
pages, either brings up a menu for various navigation options and settings, or serves as an «OK»
button — and it's not always clear which function is active.
On the right, you'll find the Home, Next
Page (yes, there are two Next Pages, one on each side), Menu and Back (what I would
think of as Esc)
buttons, along with what Amazon calls a five - way toggle switch, which can be pushed up, down, left or right or pressed down.
And while some people may prefer the Voyage's physical
page - turn
buttons to the Paperwhite's touchscreen taps and swipes, we
think most will be fine with the onscreen controls on the Paperwhite.
