It has been shown that a brain network including the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) and lateral prefrontal cortex areas, mostly modulated by the neurotransmitter dopamine, subserves the function of regulating
thoughts, emotions and responses.13 Patterns of activation of these brain structures are related to the
efficiency of resolving conflict14 and variations in the size and structure of the ACC have been related to the EC
score obtained in temperament questionnaires.15
